Substances & Energy
Recreational substances and technology – anything that can be addictive – can affect how lives play out. They carry and attract certain wavelengths, and influence what and how we intuit. One of the biggest challenges for energetically-sensitive people is learning how substances and energy mix. How we position ourselves as channels, magnets and observers shapes how we respond to things.
Entertaining too much at home, work, study or socialising can pull self off-centre. Not everyone notices such things. Some do. Self’s frame of reference is pivotal in determining how life presents and plays through. In other words… invisible dynamics impact the lived experience. Scroll down to discover how substances and energy can impact life and how we need to do whatever we do with awareness.
The energetic realm is full of layers
Many have explored the world of energy; psychic phenomena; emotional and thought waves. Energy is real and ramifications flow out of every choice we make. The invisible realm contains egoic and divine dynamics. Higher-level wavelengths spiritually heal, clear and guide. The lower levels are known as the astral or egoic realm, containing ghosts, electromagnetic, digital, mental and emotional rhythms. Divine energies can also be sensed here.
The world’s full of layers. Every row of atoms has a different feel to it. The higher one goes, the more balanced and peaceful the “vibes” become. Humans live and work in the part of creation where both levels can be sensed. This explains why some people can sense a range of energies. What we encounter is shaped by our lifestyle, issues, thoughts, feelings and beliefs.
The astral level is flavoured with greater self-focus. It’s not 100% connected to the spiritual realms. It’s where separateness exists; that state of disconnection that enables exlcusion, limited thinking and passimism. Lower-level vibes can interfere with self’s awareness of the big picture and divine guidance. Knowing that we can always reference higher is key to living, attracting and intuiting well.
The conscious choice to release all egoic vibes can bring about noticeable shifts. Technology and recreational substances are closer to mental and astral realms as dynamics and frequencies. They suppress and/or stimulate, explaining why they tend to feel hyper or heavy energetically. The egoic levels always use volume – that, is loudness as a felt, thought or visual experience which acts as a block and distraction from big picture (soul-level) wisdoms. With this, can present a sense of disconnection from peace, balance, healthy life. This is why quality time out, breath, quietness and exercise matter. They cancel out the noise and help us get back to our spiritual base.
The lower levels are where ‘negative’ influence exist
All sorts of things exist in the world of energy. Some good; some bad; some in between. The lower the levels, the heavier, grippies and more erratic things can seem. Egoic rhythms have yet to connect with life-giving energy (the universe; Source). They’re enmeshed with thoughts or feelings that hold them in lower level narratives and dialogues.
Stuckness and weighty sensations birth from opinion, limited mind, fear. Egoic self can’t see around corners but often affirms as if it does. Energy only presents as stuckness or unpleasantness there are issues to heal. Imbalance always clears as the spiritual level is accessed again. Everything can link to and be guided by the soul level.
Just as there are angels so, too, there are “demons” – “naughty” energies that can complicate life. They only do this because they’re stuck in limit. They might know Source exists but can’t sense that as a confidence. They don’t yet trust (know) life is there to help them resolve, achieve, release. The Divine is real, kind and potent especially when we know this.
“Naughty” vibes often know how to reference – i.e. connect to divine guidance – but prefer not to. They might be scared to. They could be yet to know Source is real. It all stems from lack of faith and awareness. This explains why lost souls tend to hang out with (and bother!) humans. Here, they can affect spaces and lives, especially when addictive past-times or substances are entertained. What manifests reflects the choices we make. Yet life, energy, always seeks balance.

The lower levels promote lack of faith, pessimism, over-mindful states, tension
“Negative influence” presents loudest when self is caught up with astral vibes. We can all do this. Through this, we learn about life. It’s easy to become distracted, myopic; disconnected from felt, spiritual self. Mind is a bowl, a receiving vessel which self doesn’t always remember to care for or clean.
Over-using technology, medication, alcohol, processed foods and/or drugs can pull us into thought and feeling realms too much. Such dynamics often grow out of busy routines. The mental realm offers enormous value. It’s always showing and teaching us stuff. Yet, balance is key in all dynamics. It’s where the ultimate truths are found. Natural settings, fresh air, exercise and referencing well are key wellness promoters. The challenge is to ground in what gives life, not what depletes it. It’s easy to become blocked or down from time to time.
Through the above, as experiences, we come to understand and better look after all that life is. Over-mind-full states – our own or others’ – act as magnets to lower-level frequencies. This is a part of life. For the energetically-sensitive person, there’s no way around these truths. Constancy isn’t attainable as a state. Flow is always up then down. Wiring creation in this manner, Source guarantees self growth, resolution, adventure. Life requires balance, exercise and breath to flow optimally. The joy of such things is that, in coming to know this, we become better shapers of outcomes and how we live.
Like attracts like in the world of energy
Any sense of tension, negativity or limit is a sign that self can focus higher, wider, truer again. Self experiences or attracts what it resonates with and focuses on. In the world of energy, like attracts like – we end up in states we’re entertaining in some way. Subtly or more obviously, this is how life helps us sense and resolve gaps.
Becoming more aware of and responsible for our choices plays a key role in spiritual development. The person who “over-does” alcohol or drugs tends to be more egoically- and mentally-bound. Nothing’s “good” or “bad” as an energetic wavelength. That doesn’t make experiences pleasant but energy just “is”. We’re still learning about life as an energetic existence. One might believe in goodness but not quite really live that. Addiction isn’t easy or fully conscious. We’re all addicted to some-thing or -one.
Substance abuse links users deeper into lower-level energies. Left uncleared, such dynamics become embedded. Through such things, self learns to connect truer and higher again. Places where people over-use technology and/or substances often feel heavy or stuck because they’re not cleared enough. This can create a magnifying effect, attracting more astral energies.
Entities like to socialise, not only with those who are using. Astral rhythms can gravitate to anyone who can sense (and help) them. Such dynamics can overwhelm people who are energetically-sensitive. Have you noticed how some people, near a substance, change the moment it is mentioned? Well-entrenched addicts can noticeably shift because their attachments are yearning for a feed. Yet, we can clear them using breath, fresh air, nature. Nothing’s permamently stuck unless we don’t know that.
The lower levels are the loudest
The egoic levels need attention explaining why they can be myopic or loud. The astral levels can feel unpleasant and always use loudness in some way. Energetically-sensitive people can sense them. Over-subscription to drugs, alcohol, technology, busyness can impact even others even if they’re not consuming. Heavy egoic and/or mental energies can travel with a person for years.
Egoic vibes can be silently felt, seen, smelt, tasted or heard. They always come with a level of noise on at least one of these levels. The loud ones can be really distressing, needy, abusive, even schizoid. Energetically-sensitive people can have an “allergic” reaction to such dynamics. Loud astral states can be sensed before an intuit physically meets up with them.
Do it with awareness
This page doesn’t aim to moralise. It simply outlines how egoic realms can present. It’s not always a case of “don’t do it ever” – rather: “do it with awareness”. People who feel, see or hear “things” tend to have the biggest challenge because it can take time to learn how to spiritually process “things”.
Whenever egoic energies get loud, review what you’ve been entertaining – i.e. your current approaches to life. “Turning the other cheek” and “being forgiving” can be energetic traps. Fair and healthy boundaries matter. That needn’t see compassion squashed. The universe seeks mutual respect. Win-win is the state it seeks and prompts.
So? Test these thoughts whenever you feel out of alignment. It could be you, them, the place, the food, the schedule, the substances and/or because you haven’t had a decent break. Addressing such things is a step-by-step process of trial, error and discovery. The universe – Source – always guides well, especially when we partner with It. It’s only when we don’t know this that lessons get full energetically. As partly egoic beings we’re here to learn through “what is not” to exist in maximum “what is”.
How much is too much?
Some would say, “Any at all”. The consumption or allowance of addictive stances seems to hit children, indigenous people, older people, those on medication and females the hardest. Indigenous people, because of their connections to Earth. This does not mean that indigenous peoples practise a lower level of spirituality. More spiritually aware of and bound to nature, they can be more affected by energies.
In young, moderate users, drug and alcohol use doesn’t always play out too harshly. This doesn’t mean imbalance and issues do not manifest. Depending on the substance, young people can bounce better – e.g. beer’s softer than spirit; ice worse than dope. With age and a build up of experience, most bodies find it harder to process it all.
The human body is a sponge in and around which energies gather over time. As we age, we can need less of anything before imbalance starts manifesting. Prescribed medication can also impact energetically. Too many drugs can weaken the aura, leaving people more reactive or sensitive. This can see some folk out of sorts faster; channelling vibes that are more extreme. Through this, we learn to listen to our bodies.
Gender also matters. The female absorbs (receives and carries life). Combined with age, exercise levels and technology use, substances can hit females hard. Yet, men and young people can also be energetically sensitive. Energetic overload isn’t gender-, culture-, profession- or age-exclusive. So? Listen to your body’s response to imbalance and do what you sense you need to clear.
What if I’m energetically sensitive and don’t partake at all?
Intuitive, spiritual or energetic practice doesn’t shield a person from lower-level dynamics. Such things can help but lower-level vibes are everywhere. This is nothing to fear but something to be conscious of. Egoic rhythms help us develop and engage with life on a conscious (choice) level. We can and do bump into them anywhere. Every situation, every day, is unique. There is no one answer or way things manifest. Lower-level vibes get help by approaching those who can sense them.
The realm of lost souls was once described as a room without light. These types of spirit hang about and disturb humans because they’re in the dark. Yet to find and use the “exit”, they are usually pleased when the light turns on. The “bulb” is often a child, addicted and/or energetically-sensitive person. Lost souls approach to resolve spiritual issues even though that’s not always how it presents. Yet as soon as they share why they’re seeking connection, they tend to clear.
The interpersonal reality of substances and energy
When one person uses and another doesn’t, a good meeting point can be hard to find. Substances are often used to quieten issues but don’t actually stop them from emanating out. This can be sensed by sensitive people. No matter how well the sentient explains it, non-intuitive others can think they’re imagining things. That’s simply because they do not (yet) consciously experience the world of energy.
The above doesn’t need to promote exclusion. Everyone matters all of the time. We all need to be considerate. No one is supposed to carry others full-time. Everyone has to process his/her stuff. This can be a lesson for energetically-sensitive people. Like attracts like – if you make like a porter, life can reflect that.
The lower realms teach us how to live in balance
Energetic-sensitivity comes to empower self. As witnesses or users, substances can teach us how to live as conscious creators. Lower-level energies and expressions help self learn what living real, in balance, means. There’s a long-term, positive and spiritual reason for any challenge that presents. It’s through the emergence of astral and egoic rhythms that we choose integrity, soul and big-picture life again.
