helping you make sense of all sorts of things

Energetic Sensitivity

What is energetic sensitivity?  It’s the ability to see, hear and/or sense energetic phenomena.  Psychic & Energy Work helps energetically-sensitive people process their experience of invisible stuff.  When spiritual development is forced upon us, our assumptions and models can trip us up.  Models provide structure but often prove to be the issue rather than the people involved.

This page offers a few perspectives about spiritual development and intuitive phenomena.

Energy is real

The path of spiritual and intuitive development can present in ways we don’t volunteer for.  The ability to see, hear or sense “things” presents from childbirth but gets subordinated after we turn 7.  It often re-emerges in adult life, some times interrupting plans.  Invisible phenomena are rarely understood before they start presenting.  Few people are mentored well about this from birth.  Many believe it’s their imagination.  Some conclude they are unwell.  A person’s fortunate if they’re supported by a sound network.  This is changing all of the time but, even now, energetically-sensitive people can be seen as ill or odd.

Not everyone is an expert in energy – i.e. the invisible realm.  Some are; some aren’t – the same can be said of any profession.  A variation in practitioners’ skills needn’t cause concern.  Energy is real.  The invisible world has lots of structure.  It’s not the same as “imagination” or “mental illness”, even though such states can accompany it.  If invisible things keep presenting in ways you haven’t made up, it’s possible you’re experiencing something real.

Energetic phenomena aren’t necessarily imagined

Anyone can dream things up but this doesn’t make seeing, hearing, sensing, smelling or tasting invisible things imagined.  My article, Life in a World of Atoms, outlines the difference between imagination and intuition (see the Articles page).  Things we don’t create (hence, don’t imagine) just pop in – i.e. come to self from outside.  They’re unlike our own thoughts and feelings which birth from within then flow outwards.

Energetic stuff can’t be mislabelled once we learn how to work (and live!) with it.  The world of energy is not unreal or imagined.  If people around you can’t accept this, it’s worth seeking validation elsewhere.

Energetic sensitivity doesn’t necessarily mean mental illness

A mental health practitioner once advised that there is a difference between experiencing “things” and “mental illness”.  The latter involves one losing his/her sense of self, becoming a “walk-in”.  Here, self’s too open to energetic influence.  Personality can change depending upon what’s around.  S/he can’t discriminate between what’s his/hers (or not) and can seem inconstant or ungrounded.

So… energetically-sensitive people aren’t necessarily lost.  They sense stuff others don’t, which can be overwhelming.  Yet their sense of self is still strong.  It’s this that triggers their search for help.  Well-grounded people question what they sense.  Living and working with invisible rhythms need not indicate ill-health.

Intuitive development is often triggered by the unexpected and the need to find out why “things” are happening.  This doesn’t always require a medical opinion.  That can help in some cases.  Medication can weaken a person’s aura, making them more open to egoic/astral influence.  We each need to process life in our own way.  It pays to scrutinise what you are offered.  If you’re labelled “ill” when you know you’re not, get a second opinion.

Acknowledging the above doesn’t mean Western medicine is “bad”.   It can help us all at certain times but isn’t always the best treatment pathway.  Anyone who claims that energy isn’t real has yet to learn about it themselves.  The ability to see, hear, feel, smell of taste “things” is actually skill which can be mentored.

Energetic sensitivity is all about spiritual adulthood

Some people see spiritual and intuitive development as a sign of loopiness.  Some regimes ask for more than they need to.  Spiritually intuitive growth promotes what feels right – that includes good health. Accurately sensing, labelling and processing invisible dynamics involves embracing life as it is.  Anyone can overly-honour mind, self or opinion in ways that subordinate divine guidance and will.  Such stances are challenged in spiritual psychic and energy work.  Learning to intuit helps energetically-sensitive people become more conscious, present, responsible and genuine.

Working with energy also requires us to fully process what we sense.  Aerobic-level exercise and healthy time out in nature and quietness helps.  Intuitive growth can also ask us to check how we receive and contribute.  Too much technology, busyness or socialising, without regular breaks, promotes imbalance.  Developing well as an energetically-sensitive person is about living in balance and harmony.  This involves expanding your awareness, not surrendering it.

The invisible realm isn’t more powerful than the person experiencing it

Those who experience invisible “stuff” can assume it’s more powerful.  This isn’t true but we can need to learn how to release all disempowerment.  The world of energy is reasonably structured (in ways even “naughty” entities respect).  The world of energy is not more powerful.  It just takes advantage of the fact that you don’t know this yet. Once we do, healthy shifts start manifesting.  As you move forward, check your assumptions.  Release any thought that you’ll never break through.

There’s no one way to develop energetically or spiritually

When a person decides to intuitively stretch, s/he can assume everyone does it in the same way.  Unlike other learning curves, energetic skills development isn’t a monoform path.  People tend to start from different angles.  We are each a unique bundle of hearing, seeing, feeling, tasting and/or smelling skills with specific learning and mentoring needs.

These things said, the world of energy is structured and safe once we discover a few easy rules.  They can be learned in a way that embraces the individual.  They don’t have to involve “specialness”, ritual, excessive fees or co-dependence.  What makes self vulnerable is his/her lack of awareness.  Once we learn a few things, we tend to live aware and empowered.

For all the practitioners out there (including this one!), there is a system that will make sense to you.  Finding it can take a few moments.  Keep searching until you do.  Let gut feel guide you – that’s your intuition.  Sooner or later, you will find a system and mentor which suit you.  Everything happens for a good reason.  Things come together, especially when we let them.

Energy isn’t constant nor is spiritual development

Having reached an intuitive or spiritual milestone, it’s not as if life plateaus out.  This is a myth.  Life is an ocean.  You’ll never stop new waves from rolling in.  One never arrives at a point where all things can be known or controlled.  The more one evolves, the more tumultuous life can be.  Self just surfs it better because it has learned.  Spiritual growth asks us to accept the real Source of life.  By giving It the space to genuinely guide long-term, we help to manifest healthy lives and energies.

To summarise…

So?  Energy is real; some people experience it; it doesn’t have to be “negative”; it can be well-explained.  Just because you experience something others don’t OR something you didn’t choose to, doesn’t mean anything’s “wrong”.  It’s simply flagging the emergence of a skillset which, embraced well, enhances life.  Use this site and others; check out the Articles and Useful Links pages.  Don’t stop searching until you find your place.
