Energetic Sensitivity

What is energetic sensitivity?  It’s the ability to see, hear and/or sense energetic phenomena.  Psychic & Energy Work helps energetically-sensitive people process their experiences with the invisible realm.  When spiritual development begins without our prompting, two tenets tend to trip us up repeatedly.  First is the assumption that there are only a few ways to develop; the second relates to the theories one adheres to.  Whilst such things provide structure, often it’s the model (i.e. not the person) that’s the underlying “problem”.

This page doesn’t seek to offer everything you require but it does offer a few points about spiritual development and intuitive phenomena.

Energy is real
The path of spiritual and intuitive development often presents in ways that lie outside of what we’d choose.  The ability to see, hear or sense “things” regularly appears in childhood, but gets subordinated by other things around the age of 7.  It’s not until adult life that energetic sensitivity re-emerges, often interrupting plans and unsettling people.  For many who experience energy, invisible phenomena are rarely understood before they start appearing.  This can trigger a range of responses – few people are mentored well about “doo doo doo doo” from birth.  Many are discouraged – some are told it’s their imagination; others, that they’re living on the other side of “normal”.  It’s not as if there’s a road map provided at birth and a person is fortunate if a qualified network supports him/her.  This is changing but, even now, energetically-sensitive people are often labelled as ill or problems (when they’re not).  From here, all sorts of problems can arise (some of which can take years to unravel).

Whilst it’s wonderful to resolve mysteries in one second, not everyone is an expert in how energy works.  Some are; some aren’t – the same can be said of any profession – and a variation in intuitive abilities need not cause concern.  This isn’t to say that certain professions cannot offer any support but energy is real and the invisible world has lots of structure.  It’s not the same as “imagination” or “mental illness”, even though such states can accompany it.  This, however, if “it” keeps happening in ways that you know you didn’t “make up”, it’s possible that you’re sane and experiencing something that’s real.

Energetic phenomena aren’t necessarily imagined
Whilst anyone can “dream up” things, the ability to see, hear or sense invisible phenomena is not the same as imagining them.  Fran’s article “Life in a World of Atoms” (on the Articles page) describes the different ‘fingerprints’.  Things we do not generate/create (and are, therefore, not imagined) tend to originate from outside, then come towards and onto us.  The energies of one’s own thoughts and feelings are palpably different in every respect.  They originate within a person, then radiate outwards, and can’t be mislabelled once one knows this practically.  The world of energy is not unreal or imagined; it’s a realm of phenomena that energetically-sensitive people can experience loudly.  So?  If those helping you with such things claim otherwise, it may be worth (respectfully) testing their opinion.

Energetic sensitivity isn’t necessarily accompanied by mental illness
I was once told that the difference between ‘just’ experiencing “things” and “mental illness” is that the latter involves one losing his/her self during energetic experiences.  In this way, s/he’s a “walk-in”, so open to energetic influence that his/her personality changes depending upon what’s around him/her.  S/he cannot discriminate what’s his/hers (or not) and, as a result, can become inconstant or ungrounded.

Energetically-sensitive people aren’t necessarily lost in their experience.  They sense stuff that not everyone notices, which can be overwhelming at times.  However, their sense of self is still operating strongly and it’s this that triggers their search for help.  Well-grounded energetically-sensitive people tend to question what they experience (which is a very healthy sign).  Living amongst, working with or acknowledging the invisible world need not involve gullibility or losing one’s marbles.

Intuitive development is often triggered by the unexpected emergence of obvious (i.e. loud) energetic experiences.  From there, emerges the need to find a reasonable and practical explanation for what’s happening and how to live with it.  This doesn’t always require medical opinions or treatment.  Whilst Western medicine can offer respite in some cases, pharmaceutical treatment can weaken a person’s aura.  This can make an energetically sensitive person more vulnerable to egoic/astral influence (which is what causes the initial “trouble”).  We each need to work through this in our own way and with our eyes open, scrutinising whatever’s offered.  This said, the ability to see, hear or sense “things” is a skill which needs mentoring (not dismissal or suppression).

Acknowledging the above in mind and no matter how you deal with such things, it’s important to note that Western medicine isn’t “bad”.   It can help us all at times, but it’s not necessarily the best (or only) solution for energetic sensitivity.  If your practitioners claim that energy isn’t real that’s a sign that they may not be equipped to deal with it.  Similarly, if you’re labelled as “ill” when you know you’re not, a second opinion (with or without medicine) may be worth considering.  It is possible for medicine and alternate health to work together.

Energetic sensitivity is all about spiritual adulthood
It’s sometimes thought that spiritual and intuitive development is a guaranteed sign that one is loopy.  Whilst some regimes ask more than they probably need to, genuine spiritual and intuitive growth (often) involves basic health principles.  Intuitive development – ie, learning how to sense, correctly label and process invisible phenomena – requires us to embrace life as it actually is (not as we’d prefer it).  Any person can easily honour mind, opinion or self too much, in a way that subordinates Divine will and flow.  Such stances are often what’s challenged in energy work (and usually the cause of any “problems” that arise).  Learning how to intuit tends to help energetically-sensitive people become more conscious, genuine and responsible.

Working with energy also requires a person to fully process what s/he experiences.  This can require aerobic-level exercise and time balancing out in nature or quietness.  Intuitive development can also ask us to examine how we behave as consumers and producers on any level.  Using technology too long, without a regular break, can promote energetic imbalance.  So, too, can ingesting too much alcohol, sugar, caffeine or many drugs (medical or not).  Developing as an energetically-sensitive person is more about health, balance and productively expanding your awareness (not surrendering it).

There’s no one way to develop energetically or spiritually
Often, when a person decides to learn intuitively, s/he assumes that everyone develops in the same way.  Unlike other pathways, energetic skills development isn’t mono-form in any way.  Energetically-sensitive people tend to start at different points and don’t all have the same set of abilities.  Each has a unique bundle of hearing, seeing and sensing skills, responses to them and specific mentoring needs.

The above said, the world of energy is structured (and safe!) with a few easy rules helping us to live amongst it.  Such things can be learned in a way that embraces our individual needs and circumstance.   They don’t need to involve “specialness”, ritual, co-dependence, powerlessness or subscription to expensive programs.  What makes a person vulnerable is his/her lack of awareness and, when invisible “stuff” presents, we can initially panic.  This is understandable but, once we’re aware of some things, we tend to become empowered quite quickly.

So, for all the practitioners out there (including this one!), there is a system that will resonate with you well.   Sometimes it’s quickly found; sometimes, we need to search, but even this tends to pay dividends.  If you’re not sure about the program(s) you’ve come to thus far, keep looking and researching the available networks and resources.  Sooner or later, you will find a system which sits well with what you and what you’re experiencing.  Everything’s for a reason; things ultimately come together, especially when we know they can and release our models.  Once a person understands this (practically) and values his/her circumstance as a positive and productive change, obstacles often start to positively morph.

The invisible realm isn’t more powerful than the person who experiences it
Those who experience energy sometimes assume that invisible “stuff” is more powerful than they are.  This isn’t true but, to progress beyond this platform, one has to learn a bit and release disempowerment.  Written above, the world of energy is quite structured (in a way that even the “naughty” entities honour).  When a person understands and works with this, s/he can witness a solid shift in whatever’s presenting.  So, as you move forward, examine your assumptions and release any fear that you’ll never get through “it”.  The world of energy is not more powerful; it just takes advantage of the fact that you don’t know this (yet).
Energy isn’t constant nor is spiritual development
Sometimes we can assume that, having reached a certain intuitive or spiritual milestone, we’ll arrive at a constantly-pleasant plateau.   This is a myth – life is an ocean which, for some energetically-sensitive people, includes loud energetic experiences.  You’ll never stop the waves from rolling and the surf is different every day.  So it is, too, with energy and intuitive development: there is no point where invisible phenomena become fully predictable.  The more one evolves, the more tumultuous some days can be but, once we understand this, we tend to surf it well.  Spiritual development can require us to allow the real Source of life to be just that so that it can do Its thing and help us long-term.  So…?  Look at your assumptions about intuitive development, life and energy because they might be where some of your “problem” lies.
To summarise….
You know, energy is real; some people experience it; it doesn’t have to be a “negative”; and it can be well-explained.   Just because you experience something that others do not OR something that you didn’t choose to experience, doesn’t mean anything’s “wrong”.  It actually signals the emergence of an amazing skillset which, when allowed, can enhance “real-world” lives.  So….  Use this site and others; research spiritual books and websites; read my Articles  and Useful Links pages

As a final comment…..  Energetic sensitivity can be a chore some days but one’s ability to intuit needn’t be “bad”.  As we learn a few things, our intuiting skills often become amazing blessings (even in the “real” world!).  Don’t believe me blindly but don’t sit in negativity about such things either!
